Description
This is the 40th Plein Air Painting since beginning the Plein Air Florida project with Robin MacBlane almost a year and a half ago already. This scene is located at the Forest Capital State Park in Perry, Florida. When we first learned about this park we thought the word "Capital" referred to the location's proximity to Tallahassee, Florida (the state capital) which is about 50 miles away. But, as with almost all of our plein air trips, we learned something new. Taylor County, where Perry is located, is considered the Forest Capital of the South because of its huge timber industry. The area embraces that title and even arranged to have a pine tree seed on board Apollo 14 in 1971 when that spacecraft visited the moon. The seed was brought back and planted and now a tall pine tree stands in this park marked with a commemorative plague to identify the significance of that one tree among many. The experience was my first time actually meeting a celebritree!
