Description
When God was finished making cardinals he had a little red paint left over so he gave it to the woodpecker. Robin and I were walking through Sholom Park this afternoon and she spotted a woodpecker busy pecking at the bark of a fallen tree trunk. Robin knew immediately that it was a Pileated Woodpecker. We stopped walking so we wouldn't scare it away. Robin took photos and I shot video footage as the woodpecker worked diligently to find a bug or something under that tree bark. When the woodpecker would lift his head, the red color for which he is famous seemed to be even more vivid than when his head was down pecking at the wood. This is a digital painting. I used our video shots for reference.
