This is a painting of Velbert, Germany. Or, rather, a small area in Velbert. I don’t have a very long bucket list of places I’d like to visit, but Velbert, Germany is on that list. The reason is because this is the town where my mother and my uncle were born. It is also the city my grandparents moved away from in 1928 to begin a new life in New York City. My Mom was 3 years old at the time and I think my uncle was 6 years old. They have all since passed away. I have always wanted to walk down these streets even if for just a couple of days. My reference photo was from a screenshot I took of a walking video on YouTube. I gave the sky and the cascading light some added dramatic effect.
