Description
For our 28th set of Plein Air Paintings we drove 166 miles south out of Ocala to Osprey, Florida. That is the location of a small state park with an interesting history called Oscar Scherer State Park. The sky was very overcast when we arrived but it was not raining. We found a perfect setting for our paintings and proceeded to "set up camp." Hu, my dog, was with us. We set up the easels and prepared to begin painting the landscape before us when a few drops of rain began to fall. Rain water and oil paints don't mix so we decided to wait it out. We made turkey and cheese sandwiches for ourselves and fed Hu her favorite canned dog food. The rain let up and we proceeded to paint. That didn't last long, however, as the rain soon began to fall again and, this time, much harder. It became obvious that we would have to abandon any hopes of completing the paintings on site so we packed up our supplies and, now soaking wet, we headed back to Ocala. The paintings were finished at my house on Sunday, April 22nd. The two titles we chose for our paintings help tell the story. Robin titled hers, "Turbulence" and I titled mine, "Approaching Storm."
